Iona College Selects New Women's Basketball Coach

The new coach comes from Virginia Tech.

Iona College has a new women's basketball program.

The college recently announced the appointment of Billi Godsey as the seventh coach of the program.

Godsey, who spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech, said she was looking forward to working with the women of Iona.

"I am thrilled for the opportunity to begin my career as a head coach at Iona College," she said. "The women's basketball tradition is strong and one I am grateful to be a part of."

The announcement was made by Director of Athletics Eugene Marshall Jr. and Rick Cole Jr., the future director of athletics.

Godsey, a Cheverly, MD, native, was a four-year letter winner at Hofstra University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in psychology in May 2003. She received a master's degree in psychology from Adelphi University in November 2005.

Prior to working at Virginia Tech, she was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Godsey spent two seasons as an assistant at Molloy College.

Cole said he expected Godsey to bring a lot of energy and excitement to the women's basketball program at Iona.

"We are eager for her to lead our program into a new chapter," he said.
