New Rochelle Library Exhibit Highlights Glen Island

Current photographs and archival images will be on display.

A new exhibit at the New Rochelle Public Library will focus on Glen Island.

"Summer on the Sound" features the photographs of New Rochelle resident Dr. Robert Reid, along with a variety of archival photographs and postcards of John Starin's Glen Island Resort.

The exhibit opens July 1 and runs through August 30 in the library's Lumen Winter Gallery. A public reception will take place from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 6.

Reid is a retired physician/urologist from the Albert Einstein/Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, said the library's Community Relations Coordinator Barbara Davis.

She said Reid came to American from Panama after a successful career as a professional jockey from the ages of 14 to 19. He won over 500 races.

After retiring, Reid devoted his time to photography, sketching and painting, with his work being exhibited throughout Westchester County. He also enjoys walking around Glen Island.

Davis said the library's archival collection is made possible by long-time collector Dominick Bruzzese. Other images have been provided by local historian Karen S. Allen, Candace Taubner and the Westchester County Historical Society.

The New Rochelle Public Library is located at 1 Library Plz. in New Rochelle.
