Book of New Rochelle Photos Nets $1,400+ for Paine Cottage

The book of photographs showed one day in the life of New Rochelle.

During a book signing Saturday at the Curtain Shop & General Store on Main Street in New Rochelle, profits from a book of New Rochelle photographs were given to Huguenot & New Rochelle Historical Association.

On the 10th day of the 10th month of 2010, 27 photographers fanned out around and literally over New Rochelle to document one day in the city's life. The result of that project was One Day: Photos of Life in New Rochelle, the 10-10-10 Project.

Karen Hessel was the driving force behind the book.

"The project had its challenges, and unbelievably, some detractors, but the enthusiasm of the photographers and people that learned about the project was motivating," she said.

Hessel presented a check in the amount of $1,467.25 to the historical association's Director John Wright, who was decked out in historically accurate, but uncomfortably warm—given the temperature in the mid-80s—clothing.

There was also a check from R. Patisserie, which sold the books, in the amount of $279.
