A long-time storyteller—visual, oral and written—Monica Orbe aims to express stories in a way that is both accessible and engaging. After obtaining a dual bachelor's degree in film production and psychology at the University of Southern California, Orbe went on to work on a documentary in Nigeria. As a production sound technician, Orbe not only honed her film-production skills, but she was also exposed to a country that is being torn apart by corrupt government practices. This eye-opening experience led Orbe to commit her journalistic pursuits to covering social issues that are often neglected in the news.
To help her accomplish this feat, Orbe returned to graduate school last year to study interactive journalism at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. Melding her past education and work experiences together with a master's degree has equipped Orbe with the necessary well-rounded knowledge base to tell the stories she cares about.
