Founded in 1892, Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester is the largest teaching hospital in Westchester County, servicing people in New York and Connecticut. Sound Shore Medical Center provides comprehensive treatment for more than 85,000 patients each year with primary and emergency care services, rehabilitation, a diabetes center, extensive cancer programs, orthopaedics, gerontology and laproscopic surgery, including robotics. The grounds and hospital are sprawling and well-kept. The Schaffer Extended Care Center, which is four-star rated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, provides short-term rehabilitation as well as long-term care. The hospital is also identified as a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery as well as 1st Trimester Antepartum Screening, and is approved by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons for its high-quality, comprehensive cancer programs; a distinction held by only 25% of hospitals treating cancer patients. Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester’s Sleep Center has earned accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and its Maternal-Fetal services is a Center of Excellence for First-trimester testing. Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester is a NYS designated area trauma center and stroke center, as well as a perinatal hospital with a level three neonatal intensive care unit.
