8 Things You Might Want to Check Out This Weekend

Here are some of things to do this weekend in the region.

1. Plenty of fresh produce and other goodies are still available from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Down to Earth Farmers Market in New Rochelle (North Avenue in front of the high school) and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Rochelle Grand Market on Library Green, Lawton and Huguenot streets. And from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Larchmont is the Down to Earth Farmers Market held at the Metro-North train station.

2. It will be dogs, dogs, dogs Sunday at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle for the fifth annual Hounds on the Sound walk-a-thon and festival. Registration starts at 10 a.m. with the walk starting at 11:30 a.m. There will be plenty of activties for everyone to do.

3. As of Sept. 28, Indian Point Nuclear Reactor became the first facility in the United States to operate without a license. There will be a panel discussion from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Rockland Community College in Suffern. The panel will include actor Alec Baldwin, Hudson Riverkeeper Paul Gallay and medical experts. It's $10 for the general public. RCC is located at 145 College Rd., Suffern.

5. Join Eric Jennings at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the New Rochelle Public Library for "My Favorite Sondheim," an exploration of music and lyrics from the man responsible for West Side Story, Gypsy and Company. There will be live and recorded musical accompaniment. Suggested donation is $2. The library is located at 1 Library Plz. in New Rochelle.

6. The 13th annual Community Pumpkin Patch begins Saturday, Oct. 5 at St. Thomas Church, 168 West Boston Post Road in Mamaroneck. It will be open weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is sponsored by Trinity/St. Paul of New Rochelle, All Saints of Harrison and St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Mamaroneck and St. John's Episcopal Church of Larchmont. Proceeds from the sale go to support local organizations and the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico.

7. The Maria Regina High School Country Fair will take place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The school is located at 500 West Hartsdale Ave. in Hartsdale. The fair will include family friendly activities like rides, games, pumpkin painting and food vendors. Admission is free.

8. The Spooktakular Halloween Costume Swap will happen from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Memorial Plaza gazebo in Pleasantville. Bring your unwanted, gently used costumes and choose one from the wide selection available. All leftover costumes will be donated to Lythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla. The event is free.
