Council Meeting, Nursing School and Charles Dickens

Here are a few of the things you should know about for the week ahead.

• The New Rochelle City Council will meet Tuesday, December 10 from 3:45 p.m. until approximately 9 p.m. The council takes a dinner break around 6 p.m. and reconvenes at 7:30 p.m. for public hearings and Citizens to Be Heard. Public hearings include the city's proposed 2014 budget and overriding the state-mandated tax cap. You can find the agenda and supporting documents here.

• At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, the Sarah Lawrence College Orchestra will perform under the direction of John Yannelli with guest conductor Christian Wolff. Wolff studied extensively John Cage and collaborated with Merce Cunningham. Wolffs’ work has been considered revolutionary. The concert will be in the Reisinger Concert Hall, Sarah Lawrence College, 1 Mead Way, Bronxville.

• The College of New Rochelle will hold an open house at 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, for the School of Nursing. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP Admissions at 1-800-933-5923. The College of New Rochelle is located at 29 Castle Pl. in New Rochelle.

• Hear Larchmont Public Library Librarian Frank Connelley read the Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. No registration required. The free event will be at 7 p.m. Monday, December 9. The library is located at 121 Larchmont Ave. in Larchmont.

• Did you miss Man of Steel when it was in the theaters? Well, you can see it at 11 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 11 at the Larchmont Public Library's Village Center, 121 Larchmont Ave. This 2013 major film stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent and a supporting cast that includes Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner. The free film is rated PG-13.
