Christmas Weather, Activities and 'What's a Jew to Do Day?'

Here are some of the things you should know for the week ahead.

• It’s Christmas week and many people will likely be doing some traveling. Weather-wise, the National Weather Service is forecasting high temperatures to dip until Christmas Day. There will be periods of rain Monday with a high near 54, and a slight chance of snow showers Tuesday after noon with a high near 39. Christmas Day—Wednesday—will be mostly sunny but cold, with a high hear 28. Temperatures recover Thursday and Friday, with highs near 42 and 39, respectively. Please bear in mind the forecast could change.

• Schools in the New Rochelle and Mamaroneck school districts are closed this week. Classes will resume January 6.

• Libraries do a great job filling in during the holiday break. There are activities for  kids at the New Rochelle Public Library, Mamaroneck Public Library and Larchmont Public Library.

• The schedule for garbage collection has changed in New Rochelle for the holiday week. There is no garbage collection Wednesday. Garbage and paper will be picked up Thursday in the north end and Friday in the south end.

• Are you Jewish and don't celebrate Christmas? Join the group at Temple Beth El from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday for What's a Jew to Do Day? Click on the link for details but some highlights are arts and crafts and games for the kids and a screening of “The Frisco Kid,” starring Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford—as well as kosher Chinese food—for the adults. Cost at the door is $20 per adult, $10 per child or $60 maximum for a family. Temple Beth El is located at 1324 North Ave. in New Rochelle.
