Humane Society Thrift Store Opens New Location

The New Rochelle Humane Society Thrift Store was previously located on North Avenue near the Transit Center.

The opened its doors Wednesday at its new location—54 Centre Ave. between Main and Huguenot.

The Humane Society's Board Secretary Dianne Heim said the previous location on North Avenue was in bad condition, and when the former store manager left, the decided to look for another location.

Heim said she thought the new location would bring in much more foot traffic.

She said people have been extremely generous in their donations. As of right now, she said the store was fully stocked and asked that people hold onto their items and check the Web site to see when it would be best to bring them in.

Besides household goods and children's toys, people have donated designer suits and dresses. Heim said some of the suits could have retailed for $700. They will of course be marked down at the thrift store

Heim said the thrift store is manned by a manager and one volunteer per shift. That could change if customers increase. The store could use volunteers who speak Spanish, she said.

The New Rochelle Humane Society Thrift Store is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
