Are you ready for some football?

Hey everyone! Welcome to the best sports blog on the Patch! I am The Sports Monstah and I am here to talk about all matter of sports topics and issues.

Denver vs. Baltimore

For my first topic I decided to do a short preview on the upcoming kick-off game to the 2013 NFL season. As many of you know it’s a rematch between the defending Superbowl Champion Baltimore Ravens in Mile High Stadium against the Denver Broncos. The Ravens have had notable players leave the organization but still have a core group of leaders in the locker room.  Terrell Suggs is back in action after an Achilles tear last year, leading a defense that could rival the Bengals to be number one in the AFC North. On the flipside of the ball “elite” quarterback Joe Flacco looks to bolster his reputation as a gunslinger and prove to the fans and the NFL that last year’s result wasn’t a fluke. The Broncos will showcase a running back carousel with newly acquired Montee Ball out of Wisconsin, drafted in the 2nd round who is a bruiser. Ball is a typical Big Ten running back, who likes to pound the ball up the middle. The other two backs in the three-headed monster are Ronnie Hillman, who is the speedster and Knowshon Moreno, the best option as a blocking back. I anticipate Peyton Manning to do his thing, by running a hurry-up offense and looking to pick apart the Ravens secondary. In the end I think this is a dogfight that Denver wins in Mile High.

Johnny Manziel

This biggest topic in NCAA football seems to be Johnny Manziel and is on/off the field antics. In my humble opinion, I find his on the field actions more upsetting. Considering his autograph signings scandal lacked evidence I will give him the benefit of the doubt, but his mannerisms and demeanor after being taken out of the game last Saturday is telling. While Aggies Coach Kevin Sumlin criticized the media saying, “They’re not around this football team,” one can’t help notice the blaring immaturity coming from his starting quarterback. I have two suggestions for the young Manziel, the first being avoid all media contact. Over the past few years we have seen so many young collegiate athletes that get entangled in the mess that is media. Secondly, heed the cliché, “act like you have been there before.” Do not let the other players or fans get to you, it seems like obvious advice, but if you look at current players like Devin Gardner and AJ McCarron, they seem to have a handle on their star status.

Fantasy Advice

This will just be a quick blurb about Fantasy Football. Now that your drafts are over my advice is to just play your starting lineup, whatever they may be. You have drafted to see what these guys can do, so just wait and see.
