PROS at Playland

Clients from The Guidance Center of Westchester’s Personalized Recovery-Oriented Services (PROS) program recently took part in Rye Playland’s Day for People with Disabilities.  The clients enjoyed the day of rides and activities.

While most people think an amusement park is for kids, adults with disabilities benefit from the day of fun, too.  “For our clients, getting out and participating in a day like this is a form of therapy,” said Brandan Placke, MHC, a TGCW therapist.  “For some, it helps them push the boundaries and try new and somewhat challenging things.  For others, it’s a great escape for the day and an opportunity to just have fun.”  Brandan and Jim Coyle (back row of photo), a TGCW vocational counselor, chaperoned the seven adults for the day.

D. is a client who struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). As the day drew near, he debated whether or not he should go. D. ultimately decided to participate and is glad he did: “This was the highlight of my summer. I really stepped out of my comfort zone, and I really surprised myself.”
