Jasmine Brandon Named AD3I and HVIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

The College of New Rochelle sophomore center Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ/St. Anthony HS) has been recognized by the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) and the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) as the respective conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.

Brandon had an outstanding week in leading the Blue Angels a 3-0 record, which included winning the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament championship.  The sophomore turned in a record breaking game in the championship against Yeshiva, pouring in a school record 45 points to go along with 17 rebounds and three steals to earn Tournament MVP honors.  She converted 61.3% of her field goals (19-31), and scored 11 points in a decisive 13-5 run that sent the game into overtime.  Earlier in the week, she tallied 23 points in a home win over the College at Old Westbury, The College of New Rochelle’s first win over the Panthers since the 1999-2000 season.  On the week, the center averaged 32.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 58.3% from the field.  The Blue Angels’ 6-1 start to the season is their best since the 1984-85 campaign.
