HVIAC Honors The College of New Rochelle Student-Athletes With Weekly Honors

The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) announced its weekly honors Tuesday, and The College of New Rochelle’s Meghan King (New City, NY/Clarkstown North HS) and Jenean Igmat (New Milford, NJ/New Milford HS) have been named HVIAC Volleyball Player of the Week and Cross Country Rookie of the Week, respectively.

King helped the Blue Angels secure two wins at the Bay Path College Quad Match on Saturday, September 7.  The junior co-captain paced The College of New Rochelle’s offense in kills (38) and service aces (15), while adding 19 digs and two solo blocks.  The New City, NY native tallied her first double-double of the season against Anna Maria College, posting 14 kills and 10 digs while tallying six service aces.  In the win over host Bay Path College, King recorded a career-high 18 kills, while registering three aces and six digs.

Igmat is solidifying her place as the Blue Angels' #2 runner, placing 29th overall at the Purchase College Invitational on Saturday, September 7.  The rookie completed the 5000m course in 25:31.95, helping The College of New Rochelle to a fifth place finish with a team score that improved by 19 points from the 2012 Purchase Invitational.

In addition, two Blue Angels were named to the HVIAC Honor Roll:

Sophomore Tayler Fisher (Wilmington, DE/Concord School of Science) was the top Blue Angel finisher at the Purchase College Cross Country Invitational.  The sophomore co-captain completed the 5000m course in a season-best time of 23:54.24, placing her 15th overall.  Her time was a 30 second improvement from the 2012 Purchase Invitational while the team lowered its score by 19 points.

Rookie Indigo Flowers (Castro Valley, CA/Castro Valley HS) averaged 5.18 assists, 2.0 digs and 1.09 aces per set as the Blue Angel volleyball team picked up two wins at the Bay Path College Quad Match.  She tallied her first collegiate double-double against Anna Maria College, recording 15 assists and 13 digs.  The rookie posted 14 assists and seven service aces in the win over Pine Manor College and tallied a season-best 28 assists against Bay Path, adding four more aces and six digs.
