AD3I Recognizes Two College of New Rochelle Student-Athletes

The Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) have named The College of New Rochelle junior Meghan King (New City, NY/Clarkstown North HS) and sophomore Deanna Tozzo (Shrub Oak, NY/Lakeland HS) its Volleyball and Tennis Players of the Week, respectively,  it was announced Tuesday by the conference office. 

King concluded a record-breaking season for The College of New Rochelle by leading the Blue Angels to a HVIAC Championship, earning Tournament MVP honors in the process.  On the week, she led CNR to a perfect 4-0 record, running its winning streak to a school record nine matches.  King posted three double-doubles and three matches with 15 or more kills. In the win over Culinary Institute, the junior hit .371 (15 kills against just two errors), adding 10 digs and two aces.  In a road win over Rutgers-Newark, King slammed home 15 kills while digging up a career-high 24 balls.  The co-captain averaged 3.47 kills, 3.60 digs and 0.53 aces per set as the team became the first CNR volleyball team and first team in any sport since the 1998-99 basketball season to reach the 20 win plateau.

This is the second AD3I Player of the Week honor for King, who also received the award on September 17.

Tozzo posted a strong week for The College of New Rochelle, posting two wins at #1 singles and two wins at #1 doubles.  Against Vaughn, the sophomore earned a 10-0 win at #1 singles and teamed with Violet Lisi to post an 8-1 win at #1 doubles.  Over the weekend at the HVIAC Championships, the Shrub Oak, NY resident won her quarterfinal matches in both the #1 singles and #1 doubles flights.  Tozzo recorded 8-2 wins in singles and doubles play to advance to the semifinals in both before falling to the eventual flight champions. 

This is the second time this season AD3I has recognized Tozzo with this honor.
