'Spark the Sound' Fireworks Thursday in New Rochelle

The fireworks display is by the Grucci family.

New Rochelle will be lighting up the skies Thursday with its "Spark the Sound" Independence Day Extravaganza.

The world-famous Grucci Family is producing and sponsoring the event which begins—rain or shine—at 9:30 p.m.

Parks and Recreation Commissioner William Zimmermann said the city was pleased to continue the tradition that celebrates the nation's independence.

"We are grateful for our many sponsors, whose generosity has made this annual event possible," he said.

Optimum viewing locations include Hudson and Five Islands parks and waterfront restaurants.

The fireworks display kicks off a month-long series of activities in celebration of July as "Parks and Recreation Month" in New Rochelle.

The Beach Bar will be open at Hudson Park, and events such as the Wednesday night Summer Concert Series at Hudson Park will be starting July 10.
