Sound Talk for Children at New Rochelle Library

A recent presentation brought the Long Island Sound to the New Rochelle Public Library.

Along with live specimens collected from Mamaroneck Harbor by the Marine Education Center at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck, Dr. Living Sound, aka Jim Paul from the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk (CT) gave young people more information about how we can help protect the Sound.

"We want to teach kids about the Long Island Sound," Paul said, "and the animals that live there, where the water comes from and how we pollute it.

He also talked about how people can help the Sound stay healthy.

"The Sound is important," Paul said, "and so are the animals that live there. We can make a difference."

The presentation was part of a series of activities and programs the library had for children during the summer. It was made possible with funds from the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library.

It was also part of a sneak preview of "Sound Fest: the Long Island Sound Science Festival," which will be presented in the Sound Shore communities in October 2014.

Producer Ann Marie Cunningham said there will be monthly previews of the festival in shore communities in following months. For information, email amckon141@gmail.com.
