Westchester Set To Open Golf Courses: Take the Patch Poll, Enter to Win Free Golf Show Tickets

Five county golf courses offer 50 percent off regular golf fees for 2012 opening day.

Westchester this year celebrates the 50th anniversary of its Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, and with this birthday local golfers will be getting a gift.

Golfers will save 50 percent off regular golf fees at five county public golf courses on opening day, Wednesday, March 14. Patch is also offering to help golfers get ready for the season by offering 10 pairs of tickets, free, to the annual that opens Saturday in White Plains.

The Westchester County golf courses will open March 14, weather and conditions permitting. The five courses involved with the 50 percent savings are Mohansic in Yorktown Heights; Maple Moor in White Plains; Saxon Woods in Scarsdale; and Dunwoodie and Sprain Lake, both in Yonkers. Hudson Hills is not included in the offer.

If you’d like a chance to win free tickets to the Golf Show, take the golf course poll below and e-mail your name, hometown and a contact telephone number to williamd@patch.com by 1 p.m. Friday. The 10 winners will be selected in a random drawing. Read more about the contest rules below.

Fees increased

For 2012, Westchester County says this year’s greens fees include a $2 increase to provide the same quality services and conditions county courses offer. Greens fees for 18 holes with a Westchester County Park Pass are: weekends and holidays, $35; weekdays, $31; seniors and juniors (weekdays only) $24. Greens fees without a park pass are: weekends and holidays, $45; weekdays, $41. Twilight, super twilight and nine-hole discounts are available. Golf cart fees are separate. Fee structure for Hudson Hills is available online at hudsonhillsgolf.com.

For opening day, there is no rain date for the anniversary special offer. Only walk up reservations will be accepted on March 14 with first come, first served; no advance reservations; Twilight, super twilight and back nine rates not included.

The tee time reservation system is available beginning today, Wednesday, March 7, at 7 p.m. by calling (914) 995-GOLF (4653) or online at golf.westchestergov.com, the link. The first day of available reservations will be March 15.

Any remaining available E-Z Reserve spots will be sold at the courses. E-Z Reserve enables golfers with a Westchester County Park Pass to block out a regular Saturday or Sunday tee time for a period of 25 weeks.

Just ahead of the opening of the county golf course is this weekend’s annual Golf Show at the Westchester County Center in White Plains on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Stop by the Golf Westchester booth and fill out an entry form for free prizes and automatically receive a coupon for a “2 Fore 1” golf round on county courses during the first month of the season. Restrictions apply. Pros will give swing tips and sell merchandise. Golf gift cards and county park passes will be on sale as well.

The Golf Show will also feature the Metropolitan Golf Association’s “Let’s Talk Golf” stage, offering hourly talks and demonstrations including expert tips from the “putting doctor” and short lessons on chipping and putting. Golfers can practice putting on the green provided by Armonk’s Home Green Advantage.

The Executive Women’s Golf Association will offer free lessons specifically tailored for women. Golf resorts and courses from Bermuda to Ocean City, MD, to Binghamton and the Hudson Valley will be represented.

The Golf Show will also feature manufacturers demonstrating their new 2012 products. Hourly prizes include gift certificates and golf-related merchandise. Plus there will be a putting contest to benefit the MGA foundation. Make the 50-foot putt and win a free round of golf and two-pack of Bridgestone balls, while supplies last.

Admission is $9; seniors $8; free for children under 12. Parking is $5. Paid admissions receive a coupon for a free small bucket of balls at Fairview Golf Center in Elmsford.

The Westchester County Center is located at 198 Central Park Avenue in White Plains.
