Poll: Which Summer Sporting Event Are You Most Excited About?

Which sport will keep you off the beach and on your couch?

This Wednesday is the first official day of summer and while many professional sports take a break during the season, a few major competitions promise to hold our attention.

The biggest sporting event this summer is arguably the Olympics, which kick off Friday, July 27 in London. What makes the Olympics fun is the mix of mainstream sports like basketball, swimming and track with lesser-known sports including archery, badminton and table tennis.

July 10 brings the Mid-Summer Classic, otherwise known as the MLB All-Star Game. This year it’s in Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Before the game even gets underway, we can enjoy the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Futures Game, featuring up-and-coming minor leaguers. The All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball offers viewers a glimpse of Hall of Fame baseball players, models and actors.

Right before the summer ends and kids head back to school, the US Open comes to New York on Aug. 27. Whether watching on TV or actually heading into Queens to catch some the action live, watching the US Open is always an enjoyable option for relaxing before summer ends.

But, of course, those aren’t the only three sporting events going on this summer. There are plenty others, so if your favorite isn’t listed above, let us know what you’ll be looking forward to the most this summer.

Sports really doesn't excite me anymore, I'm too scared about concussions. Those helmets aren't strong enough, the pitchers throw really hard. Have you ever hit by a golf ball, or a tennis ball? I'm sorry I just can't watch, I'm too scared of concussions. They really are scary, we have to do something about it. I'll be staying on my couch where I'm safe.
