Injured, Mary Cain Won't Run in World Track&Field Championships

U.S.A Track and Field announced that Mary Cain has withdrawn from the World Indoor Track and Field Championships, which start March 7 in Poland.

Persistent pain in her calf is the reason, USATF announced, quoting Cain as saying:

“Unfortunately I will not be able to travel to the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot,” Cain said in a statement. “Over the past week, I developed a discomfort in my lower calf. I had an MRI scan on Saturday and it was all clear,  but I still feel the pain when I wear spikes and have decided not to risk making it worse in Poland. I hope to be able to run in the World Indoor Championships many times in the future. I wish all my fellow USA athletes the best and hope they bring home lots of medals from Poland.”

Bronxville High School runner Cain broke national records in 2013 and won the 1500-meter title at the USA Championships last month

Sounds like little Ms. Cain is afraid that she might run into some real competition in March. Who the heck has she run against. There are a few high schools in NYC where the girls would blow her out of the water
