Daily Sports Digest: Trio of Iona Basketball Players Bring Home Awards

The awards continue for the Iona College men’s basketball team, as a trio of athletes headlined the 2012 All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Team.

Scott Machado was named to the All-Met first team and he capped off his record setting career at Iona by winning the 79th Haggerty Award, which is given every year to the most outstanding Division 1 mens basketball player in the New York Metropolitan Area.

This is the third year Machado was named to the All-Met team and Iona big man Mike Glover joined him on the first team for the second year. Lamont Jones was named to the third team.

In baseball, Pearl River heads to New Rochelle at 4:30 p.m.

In boys lacrosse, New Rochelle heads to Eastchester at 4:30 p.m.

In softball, New Rochelle heads to Ursuline at 4:30 p.m.
