Lo-Hud Baseball Blogger Names Tournament Team:

I first met Vincent Mercogliano when he was a freshman and I was a sophomore at Hofstra University. Ever since our first debate we have rarely agreed on anything when it comes to sports, especially baseball, but I must say his Section 1 Baseball All-Tournament Team on the Lo-Hud Baseball Blog is pretty spot on.

Lo-Hud’s Mercogliano breaks down the best players by position in Class AA, Class A and Class’s B and C for three All-Tournament Teams.

New Rochelle’s Phil DiBuono was named the first basemen on the Class AA All-Tournament Team.

Score: Bishop Timon Won 16-15

Highlights: Bishop Timon’s Adam Dimillo scored five goals and three assists in the win. Iona’s Luke Wooters led all scores with seven goals in the loss.

Highlights: New Rochelle’s Temi Bajulaiye finished fourth in the 800 meter run and third in the 400 meter dash.

MSG Varsity Hosts 25 Elite HS Quarterbacks:

MSG Varsity held the inaugural Tri-State Quarterback Showdown at New Rochelle High School yesterday afternoon. Bergan Catholic’s John Germano won the competition as Iona Prep’s Mario Biaggi finished second and Elizabeth’s Philip Walker came in third. Patch’s was there with the .

State Regional Semifinals: Baseball

Class AA, Arlington vs. Kingston (Section 9) at RC Ketcham HS at 4 p.m. The winner will play Section 4’s Horseheads on Tuesday.

Class A, Section 9 vs. Main-Endwell (Section 4) at 4 p.m., Harrison will play the winner of this game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. with the location still to be determined.

Class B, Briarcliff vs. Spackenkill (Section 9) at SUNY New Paltz at 4 p.m. The winner will play Babylon (Section 11) on Tuesday.

Class C, Haldane vs. S.S. Seward (Section 9) at 4 p.m. at Pace University. The winner will take on the winner of the Section 8-Section 11 matchup on Tuesday.

Giordano, Scarinci, Jaspers End Season:

Senior right-hander Mike Giordano of Bedford came out of the bullpen and finished his career at Manhattan College third all-time in career appearances in program history as the Jaspers fell to Coastal Carolina, 11-1, in the elimination game of the NCAA Baseball Tournament at Carolina Stadium in Columbia, SC.

The Fox Lane graduate, who made his 65 appearance in relief, finished tied for fifth in program history with 22 career wins.

Right-hander Mike Scarinci of Nanuet got two outs in relief for the Jaspers, who ended a thrilling season at 33-27 under Coach Jim Duffy, who guided the club to the program’s seventh-straight 30-win campaign. Coastal Carolina lifted its record to 42-18.

Scarinci, a graduate of Pearl River HS, went a respectable 6-4 with a 4.88 ERA in his rookie season. He appeared in 24 games, making five starts.

This season marked the first time in program history that Manhattan played in the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years, as well as the Jaspers’ second consecutive MAAC championship.

St. John’s Storms Into Super Regional:

The St. John’s University baseball team capitalized on two infield errors in the ninth inning to pad their lead and defeated North Carolina, 9-5, Monday night in second-round action in the NCAA Baseball Tournament Chapel Hill (NC) Regional. The Red Storm (40-21), advancing to the Super Regional for the first time in program history, fell behind 3-1 after two innings, but quickly took a 4-3 lead and never trailed. Anthony Iacomini of North Salem started at second base, and left in the seventh inning for a pinch-hitter, while Colin Moran of Rye was at third base for the Tar Heels, who finish their season at an impressive 46-16. Outfielder Jimmy Brennan of Airmont went 1 for 4 with an RBI for the Red Storm, who next meet the winner of the Tucson, AZ, Regional. To reach the final, St. John’s needed a three-run homer in the ninth inning to upend North Carolina, 5-4, snapping the Tar Heels’ 16-game winning streak. Left-hander Sean Hagan of Larchmont earned a no-decision after allowing four runs in 8.1 innings. The Red Storm had opened tournament play by smashing East Carolina University, 11-3, behind a 16-hit attack, including a 2-for-5, two-RBI effort from Suffern HS alum Brennan.

• Montclair State University senior diver Lauren Corrente of Nyack placed 12th in the one-meter event with a score of 297.60 points at the Metropolitan Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Rutgers University. Montclair State finished in eighth place overall.
• Left-hander Chris O’Grady of Congers made his team-high 25th appearance in relief as the George Mason University baseball team was eliminated from the CAA Championship with a 12-7 loss to the sixth-seeded Towson Tigers, 12-7, in Harrisonburg, VA. The Clarkstown North alum also ended the campaign with a team-high 14 saves, and went 2-0 with a 1.22 ERA.
• Coach John Killingbeck and the Iona Gales will be hosting over the summer for young athletes of all ages and skill levels.
