Iona Prep Wins Class Title

On Saturday, the Gaels beat Fordham Prep 9-2 at St. John’s University to capture the CHSAA Class AA intersectional city championship. Back by a five-run first inning, Iona’s Timothy McCarthy pitched a complete game, striking out four while walking no one, according the Daily News. Read the full game recap here.

New Rochelle Girls Finish 12 At States

Led by Briyah Brown, the New Rochelle High School girls track and field team finished 12 overall in the weekend’s New York State Track and Field Championships at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. The junior finished first in the shot put with a distance of 12.96 meters.

Junior Johari Privott-Yeiser finished 15th in the pole vault and Ashley Wiggins finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles.

Alicia Donaldson finished 22nd overall in the pentathlon, which consists of five events. In the individual events, Donaldson finished 25th in the 100 meter hurdles, 27th in the high jump, fifth in the shot put, 12th in the long jump and 20th in the 800 meter run.
