junior Chelsea Cabarcas is competing for a spot on the Colombian Olympic women’s soccer team.
She is one of 22 players invited to the team’s summer camp to compete for a spot in this month’s Olympic games. Twelve of the players, including Cabarcas, play at an American college.
Cabarcas played for Colombia’s U17 national team in the past, and last year appeared in 14 games for the Gaels.
During the tryout portion of the summer, Cabarcas has played center defense, right defense and center midfield. The team also plays against some of Colombia’s top 17-and-up male teams. Cabarcas injured her knee and tailbone, but returned to practice after sitting out four days.
