College Sports Notebook:

Dominican College Wears Crown Once Again

The Dominican College softball team, which won its third straight Central Atlantic Athletic Conference (CACC) title by beating Bloomfield (NJ) College, 9-0, in the title game, has earned its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in double-elimination tournaments. Regional competition will be held May 4-6.

The Lady Chargers will participate in the East 2 regional site portion of the bracket which will be hosted by No. 3 C.W. Post University.

Dominican has an overall record of 37-15 and posted a 4-0 record last week during play at the CACC Championships, where junior shortstop Julie Plante of Swansea, MA, was voted tournament MVP.

Bloomfield, which finished 32-22, was sparked by Krystina Poloni of Pearl River. The junior alumna of Pearl River HS led the Deacons with 39 RBI, finished second with a .500 slugging percentage, tied for second in home runs with six, and her .331 batting average was third-best on the team.

Joining Plante on the CACC all-Tournament squad are teammates Delaney Childers of Johnstown, OH, a junior pitcher; senior outfielder Deidre Jeppson of Sylmar, CA, junior catcher Ashley Corrao of Staten Island, and sophomore first baseman Paige Berza of Cypress, CA.
