The College of New Rochelle opened their basketball season with a 68-15 bludgeoning of Cooper Union. The Blue Angels were led by a tandem of freshmen from Yonkers in Tra’Leassa King and Alyssa Pechin. King led the way with 29 points as Pechin picked up 15 and dished out six assists.

Coach Susan Kern and the Blue Angels won the game with high energy, good defense, and a physicality that could not be matched by Cooper Union. The College of New Rochelle dominated the glass and cruised to victory.

Rajwant Sandhu is a student in the School of Arts and Sciences, and last summer Sandhu suffered a sudden heart attack and he is now recovering. During the game, the students gathered in the school’s Wellness Center and invited fans to purchase raffle tickets, baked goods and other items with the entirety of the proceeds going to Sandhu’s medical expenses and recovery.
