All-Star Softball Game Benefits New Rochelle Parks

New Rochelle turned out for a friendly game of softball Thursday, all to benefit the Friends of New Rochelle Parks.

The event was the second-annual WFAN All-Stars Celebrity Softball Game, held at Flowers Park athletic complex.

It was the WFAN All-Stars, led by WFAN radio host and former New Rochellean Craig Carton, versus the City of New Rochelle, coached by College of New Rochelle Athletic Director Harold Crocker.

The WFAN lineup included Boomer Esiason, Dwight Gooden and Wally Szcerbiak.

City Parks and Recreation Commissioner William Zimmermann said Carton had such a great time at last year's event that he wanted to do it again.

The city was selling raffle tickets for items such as autographed baseball memorabilia, Yankees tickets, Iona Gaels men's basketball tickets and round-trip taxi service to area airports provided by Green Team Taxi.

Zimmermann said the raffle tickets were sold at the game and will be on sale until the drawing July 5.

He said he was hoping to best last year's total proceeds of $6,500.
