School Supplies Donated to New Rochelle Children

Three hundred New Rochelle children will be heading back to school in September with brand new school supplies and a backpack.

For the 20th year, Residence Park Neighborhood and Civic Association held its school supplies giveaway Thursday at an event hosted by Hope Community Services.

Hope's Executive Director Carole Troum said the school supplies can make a real difference to the children.

"It lets them start out on the same level," she said, "without any disadvantage."

Resident Park President Lisa Davis said the program has grown since last year.

"We are up from 200," she said.

Residence Park volunteers collected the school supplies through donations, and ShopRite provided the backpacks.
