Passenger Safety Poster Nets New Rochelle Student Prize, $200

The student goes to Barnard Early Childhood Center in New Rochelle.

A New Rochelle student is one of 15 students from Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island, Westchester and Rockland counties who has won a major prize in AAA’s annual Traffic Safety Poster & Video Contest.

Isabela Diaz, a first grader at Barnard Early Childhood Center in New Rochelle, won a second place prize and $200 for her original poster in the Pedestrian and
Child Passenger Safety category.

John Corlett, director of Traffic Safety, presented the students with their awards in a ceremony at a local restaurant in Mineola, Thursday.

Awards ranged from $50 to $1,000.

AAA’s Traffic Safety Poster & Video contest provided an opportunity for young people to learn basic pedestrian, bicycle and motorist safety, as well as motor vehicle occupant protection and DUI prevention. They illustrated a safety theme in poster format at the elementary level and in video or poster format at the high school level.

There were 2,000 entries, that were judged on originality, execution, visual relationship and effectiveness of message communication.
