New Rochelle Teacher Chosen As 'Top Teacher'

Ann Marie Rooney was one of five teachers from around the country for a television show's contest.

From the New Rochelle School District:

Ann Marie Rooney, a special education teacher at New Rochelle's Ward Elementary School, is one of only five nationwide winners in the LIVE with Kelly and Michael Top Teacher Search contest. The other four winners are from Texas, Connecticut, South Carolina and Virginia respectively. 

Ann Marie was one of 12 teachers who were initially put up for public voting on the show's Web site. Voting took place beginning on Friday, April 12th and ended yesterday at 5pm.

Teachers from across the country were nominated by parents, colleagues and students. Ann Marie was nominated by the Bavosa family of New Rochelle. Their son Timothy has been in Mrs. Rooney's class for the last two years.

Producers from the show will visit Ward Elementary this Thursday to interview Ann Marie and the Bavosa family for a feature that will air on the show. Ann Marie will also appear live on an upcoming broadcast of the show during the week of April 29th.
