New Rochelle School Budget Sessions Scheduled

The district will broadcast the sessions live from the New Rochelle High School Library.

The New Rochelle School District board of education has scheduled a series of meetings during which the community can provide input as the board shapes the 2013-14 budget.

There will be two Budget Community Input Forums and three Budget Review Sessions focusing on financing of the programs the district offers to children.

In an open letter to the community, Board President Chrisanne Petrone said she looks forward to seeing New Rochelle residents at the meetings.

"As always, we are committed to maintaining the excellence of our school system," she said. "At the same time, we remain ever mindful of the significant burden that quality education places upon our local taxpayers."

The schedule of meetings is as follows:

School Budget Community Input Forums

  • Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, 7 p.m., New Rochelle High School Library, 265 Clove Rd.
  • Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, 7 p.m., New Rochelle High School Library, 265 Clove Rd.

School Budget Review Sessions

  • Thursday, March 7, 2013, 7 p.m., New Rochelle High School Library, 265 Clove Rd.
  • Tuesday, March 12, 2013, 7 p.m., New Rochelle High School Library, 265 Clove Rd.
  • Thursday, March 14, 2013, 7 p.m., New Rochelle High School Library, 265 Clove Rd.

The School Budget Community Input Forums and the School Budget Review Sessions will be broadcast live on Cablevision (Channel 77 or 99-917 for digital subscribers), Verizon FIOS (Channel 30) and on our Web site. The link will be posted on the Web site closer to the date of the first Budget Forum.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
