New Rochelle High School Sends Grads Out Into the World

This was the 116th commencement exercises at the high school.

About 776 diplomas were handed out at the 116th commencement exercise Thursday at New Rochelle High School.

The ceremony took place under sunny skies with a cooling breeze on the school's William H. McKenna Field.

New grad Julianne DeMicco, 18, plans to attend Binghamton University in the fall to study neuroscience.

"I'm going to become a doctor," she said, adding that she was really excited about graduating.

DeMicco had some advice for the class of 2014.

"Don't take it for granted," she said. "This has been the best four years of my life so far."

Henry Nwaru, 18, is headed for Brooklyn College in the fall to study engineering.

However, he heart is in acting, but engineering is a "back up plan."

Nwaru said he was the fourth child in his family to graduate from high school.

"I kept wondering 'when is it going to be my time?' " he said.

"I'm leaving with a great feeling," Nwaru said.
