New Elementary Principals Picked for New Rochelle

The new administrators will be at Trinity and Columbus elementary schools.

New leaders have been chosen for Trinity and Columbus elementary schools in New Rochelle.

Sonia Nunez, assistant principal of Columbus Elementary, will succeed outgoing Principal Yigal Joseph in July. 

Anthony DiCarlo will take over at in July from Principal Rolando Briceno.

Both Nunez and DiCarlo are scheduled to be officially appointed June 26 by the New Rochelle School District board of education.

Nunez has been assistant principal at Columbus since Sept. 2005. Before that, she held several positions at Isaac E. Young Middle School, including foreign language teacher and 21st Century after-school program coordinator. Nunez has a master's degree in educational theory and practice from SUNY Albany and a master's degree in education administration from the .

DiCarlo is currently the director of special education, pupil personnel services and curriculum and instruction with the Tuckahoe Union Free School District. His previous experience includes principal positions in Tuckahoe and Shrub Oak schools. DiCarlo has a master's degree in education from .

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
