Iona Prep Wins Regional Championship for MSG Varsity's "The Challenge"

Local teens school take home the prize for the Westchester Hudson Valley Regional Championship of MSG Varsity's "The Challenge"

Iona Preparatory School has completed its run through the Regional Competition of MSG Varsity’s “The Challenge," winning the Westchester Hudson Valley Championship according to a release from Cablevision. 

By winning the Regional Championship, The Iona Preparatory School received $2,500 and qualified for the Tri-State Championships, where their streak ended in a tightly contested match against eventual TriState Champion Runner-up Greens Farms Academy from Connecticut.

The Iona Preparatory team was represented by: Henry Choi, Thomas Taylor, Gabriel Ferrante (Captain), Charles Mancin, (Alternates) Steven Neyen and Jack Sullivan. The academic advisors are Deirdre Mone and Darin Gillenwater. 

Back for his fourth season as host of “The Challenge” was Jared Cotter, a popular semi-finalist from American Idol, who served as challenge moderator, testing competing teams on their knowledge of history, arts and literature, current events, math, and science in front of a live studio audience.

“The Challenge” included 192 high schools from across the tri-state area.

Participating schools advanced through a series of elimination rounds, with one school in each region being crowned regional champion and winning $2,500 for their school.

The regional champions then went on to “The Challenge” Championship where they squared off in a Tri-State Showdown according to the release. The school awarded the title of Tri-State Champion received $10,000 in prize money and each student participating in the final “Challenge” Championship game received $500.
