Iona College to Host 3d Debate Watch Party

The 2012 Westchester Presidential Debate Watch Party is a non-partisan free event.

Iona College will be the scene Monday of 2012 Westchester Presidential Debate Watch-Party, the night of the final face-off between President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney.

Beginning at 7 p.m. will be the pre-debate discussion, moderated by Steven D. Horton, the watch-party series co-chairman. It will be held in the Christopher J. Murphy Auditorium in Murphy Center.

On the discussion panel will be New Rochelle Councilman Jared Rice, D-District 3; Joe McLaughlin, Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District; Tricia Mulligan, Iona College chairwoman and professor of political science, and two Iona College students—Bridget McBrien and Amanda Kelly, Class of 2013 political science and economics majors.

College officials said they expect over 200 people to attend the free event.

After the pre-debate discussion, the debate from Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL, will be televised. The evening's topic is foreign policy, and the debate, which will be in the same format as the first one, will be moderated by Bob Schieffer of CBS's Face the Nation.

There will be light refreshments during the evening. Event organizers said they anticipate a cross section of culturally diverse attendees from many socio-economic backgrounds.

CORRECTION: There will not be a formal post-debate discussion Monday. Incorrect information was received from Iona College. This article has been modified from its original version to reflect the change.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
