Earlier this month Montefiore Health System received approval from the US Bankruptcy Court to acquire assets of Sound Shore Health System, including Hopfer School of Nursing at Mount Vernon Hospital.
Montefiore is committed to supporting Hopfer’s role of training nurses, according to a release from the school, and the fall 2013 semester starts on August 24th. Title IV funding is not currently available, but, according to the release, Montefiore has committed to providing loans and payment programs for qualifying students, and anticipates no interruption in instruction or the application process.
Hopfer is accepting applications for the spring 2014 semester that starts in January 2014. The application deadline is September 5th, 2013.
At the open houses, Hopfer administrators and instructors will provide information on admission requirements and an overview of the two-year Registered Nursing program. In addition to a tour of the school, there will be an informal question and answer session at both times. Current students will be available to share their experiences and give advice.
Hopfer School of Nursing offers an Associate Degree in Science (Nursing), and an innovative Dual Acceptance Partnership with Mercy College. Graduating high school seniors with 85% or higher grade point average can apply directly to Mercy College for a BS in Nursing Dual Degree Program with Hopfer School of Nursing.
Hopfer is one of the few nursing schools in Westchester offering weekend and evening Programs. Upon completion of their Associate Degree requirements, Hopfer students are prepared to take the licensing exam for Registered Nurse. Hopfer graduates had a 2012 first-time, pass rate of 95.65% and the first half of 2013, the recorded 100%.
If graduates desire to continue their education after successful completion of the two-year program, Hopfer has articulation agreements with a number of four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree programs.
