The Child Development Institute was established in 1987 to develop programs for early childhood and elementary school teachers, administrators, child development professionals, and the community at large. The Institute takes a progressive perspective in which the child is viewed as an individual in the social context and education is broadly conceived as an opportunity for nurturing humanistic social values and awareness of the world, as well as social, emotional, imaginative, and intellectual development.
