Daily Sports Digest: Iona's Jones Sets School Record in Win

The Top Spot:

Junior Guard Lamont “Momo” Jones of Harlem set a Hynes Center record with 43 points in the team’s win over MAAC rival Canisius.

Jones led the Gaels to a 105-86 victory at home and he also picked up four rebounds and two assists.

The previous record for the building was Steve Burtt who scored 40 points at the Hynes center in 1984.

Scott Machado played a great game as he continues to lead the NCAA in assists, and yesterday the senior dished out 14 to go along with his 14 points. Mike Glover also had a stellar game as the big man scored 12 and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Iona will play their next two games on the road as they take on Manhattan on Feb. 4 and Loyola on Feb.10.

Sign Up for New Rochelle Little League:

New Rochelle residents can sign up for Little League for the 2012 season this weekend. Saturday, Feb. 4, marks the second of three registration dates for this year, with the third coming the following weekend.

All registrants must have a copy of their birth certificate and they will be held at the Little League House at Tocci Field from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prices and additional information for all age groups can be found on the league’s Web site.

Sport: Boys Basketball

Game: New Rochelle vs. White Plains

Score: New Rochelle 71-47

Highlights: Chris Elegante led New Rochelle with 14 points as Malik Burts and Kirkland Ottey each added 10. Chris Jordan led all scorers with 16 points for White Plains in the loss.

Sport: Girls Basketball

Game: New Rochelle vs. White Plains

Score: New Rochelle Won 63-55

Highlights: Mary Miceli led the Huguenots with 18 points and Aaliyah Hayes added 17 in the win. Kim Hanlon led all scorers with 22 points in the loss.

Sport: Girls Basketball

Game: Mamaroneck vs. Ursuline School

Score: Ursuline Won 54-31

Highlights: Keira Keane finished the game with 13 points for the Koalas and Veronique Ntumba picked up 11 in the win. Mamaroneck’s Aliza Kanto had seven points in the loss.

Sport: Girls Basketball

Game: Ursuline B vs. Solomon Schechter

Score: Ursuline B Won 40-13

Highlights: Lindsay Bettke led Ursuline B with 11 points in the low scoring affair. Hannie Everett picked up seven points for the Lions in the loss.

In ice hockey, New Rochelle will host White Plains at the Ice Hutch at 6 p.m.
