Edgemont softball hosted New Rochelle yesterday, but the home field didn’t come into play because the Huguenots won 19-5.

The balls were flying out of the park with ease yesterday as Anjela Trozzi was 5-6 with three solo home runs and four runs scored.

Victoria Catrini picked up three RBI for Edgemont. Catrini picked up a single and triple in the loss.

Game: New Rochelle vs. Hastings

Score: New Rochelle Won 7-4

Highlights: B.J. Giordano struck out eight in five innings of work before handing the ball off to Phil DiBuono for the save. DiBuono struck out four in two innings. John Valente went 3-3 with two runs and Two RBI for New Rochelle.

Sport: Girls Lacrosse

Game: Sleepy Hollow vs. New Rochelle

Score: New Rochelle Won 13-5

Highlights: New Rochelle’s Danielle Medin scored four goals as Lauren Baker and Cassidy Cruz each ended the game with two goals and two assists in the win.

Sport: Girls Lacrosse

Game: Ursuline vs. Ardsley

Score: Ursuline Won 17-7

Highlights: Michaela Brown scored three goals and assisted on four others in the win. Four other Koalas scored three goals.

Sport: Softball

Game: Ursuline vs. Eastchester

Score: Ursuline Won 2-0

Highlights: Brittany Mitchell shut down the Eagle offense as she struck out five and allowed three hits in a complete game shutout. Mitchell and Lauren Filardi each scored for the Eagles.

In boys tennis, Mamaroneck will host New Rochelle at 4:15 p.m.

In softball, New Rochelle heads to John Jay at 4:30 p.m.

In girls lacrosse, Ursuline will host Dobbs Ferry at 4:30 p.m.

College Sports Notebook:

Camardella keeps his eye on the ball

Junior Andrew Camardella of Pelham continues to lead the Dominican College baseball team in hitting, and his 20 doubles are second-best in all of Division II, trailing only senior Jacob Karr of Wingate (NC) University.

Karr, however, has 23 doubles in 49 games while Camardella achieved his total in just 34 games.

Camardella is batting a hefty .351, and has 24 RBI to share the team lead with Tony Blake of Windsor, CT.

The Chargers, who improved to 15-20 overall and 8-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after a doubleheader sweep of host Caldwell (NJ) College, meet the University of New Haven (15-14-1) today at Vieira Field in West Haven, CT. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.           

The Chargers are scheduled to play at Provident Bank Park in Pomona on Thursday and Friday against Adelphi University z915-16) and Nyack College (15-15), respectively.

Sophomore catcher Jose Rodriquez of Pomona is batting .077 for the Warriors in limited action, while junior Phil Delisle of Quebec leads the club at a healthy .366.

Dominican defeated Caldwell, 11-5, in the opener of their twin-bill, and took the nightcap, 5-2, jumping ahead early on RBI from Greg Gonzalez of Franklin Square and Camardella to support the pitching of Dustin Javins of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Mortarboard musings

  • Anthony Sigui of New Rochelle carded 90 and led the Westchester Community College golf team at a Mid-Hudson Conference tournament the Vikings hosted at Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers. Westchester had a team score of 371, two strokes behind Ulster CC.
  • The Westchester Community College baseball team welcomes Bergen CC to Valhalla today at 3:30 p.m.
  • Concordia College’s Daniele Piludu of Cagliari, Italy has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tennis player of the week, while Mark Mozer of Brest, Belarus, also of Concordia College, was named the league’s rookie of the week. The Bronxville-based Clippers (15-7, 6-0 CACC) are preparing for the conference tournament, which they will host beginning on Saturday at the Meyers Tennis Center.
  • Dominican College junior Delaney Childers of Johnstown, OH, has been honored as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) softball pitcher of the week for the third time this season. Teammate Julie Plante of Swansea, MA, was named the CACC player of the week. The Chargers (30-14) visit the University of New Haven on Thursday for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m., and then on Friday return home to host Caldwell (NJ) College for a twin-bill set at 3 p.m.
  • Freshman infielder Stanley Susana of the Bronx was named East Coast Conference (ECC) rookie of the week after helping the St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team split four games. Susana batted .562 with nine RBI and three runs, hitting safely in all four games. The Spartans (24-12) meet Dowling College (22-13) today at 3:30 p.m. in Brookhaven.
