It has already been a very exciting week in the world of college hoops in New Rochelle. Earlier in the week as the MAAC conference’s first awards came out senior forward Kristina Ford of the woman’s basketball team was named the conference’s player of the week and freshmen guard Damika Martinez was named the conference's rookie of the week.

The Monroe Mustangs also enjoyed an award-winning week as they were named the nations No. 1 team for the first time in the school’s history.

The Iona men’s basketball team is currently taking part in the 5-Hour Energy Puerto Rico Tip Off in San Juan and yesterday afternoon the Gaels lost to Purdue on a Robbie Hummel buzzer beater. In the loss, Lamont Jones led Iona in scoring with 17. The Gaels will play Western Michagan today.
