Daily Sports Digest: Clark and Combs Named to All-Metro Team

Your interactive, daily digest for all New Rochelle scores, schedules and standings — and a place for you to add information and images for all of your favorite sports and teams.

The crew at MSG Varsity recently announced the All-Metro football first and second team along with the honorable mention and it came to no surprise that New Rochelle’s junior punter Jack Clarke and Iona Prep’s corner back Justin Combs made the list.

dominated William & Mary yesterday as the Gaels visited the Tribe and beat them 83-65. Iona improved to 10-2 on the season and Lamont Jones and Sean Armand led Iona with 20 points a piece.

The Bob Cousy list is named for the Hall of Famer who played 14 years in the NBA mostly with the Boston Celtics. Every year the list nominates dozens of candidates for an award that recognizes the country’s best point guard. Iona College’s senior Scott Machado has been named to the list for the third straight year, and this season Machado is averaging 10.5 assists per game and his 115 assists on the year rank second in the nation.

Iona Collge forward Mike Glover, at 6 feet 7 inches, has already been recognized for his work this season by winning the MAAC player of the week twice this year. But after last week’s efforts the sensational senior has been named the National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. Glover has had a sky-high shooting percentage all year and if he keeps it up he could take the Gaels right into the big dance.
