Center Lane Holds 16th Annual Gay Prom

More than 200 people attended.

Center Lane's 16th annual Gay Prom, held at the Polish Center in Yonkers, was host to over 200 young people. The theme was "Gods and Goddesses" and guests came dressed the part.

“I am a godly goddess,” said Center Lane Youth Counselor Alexander Drab, who wore fake gold eyelashes and a purple sash.

Center Lane is the only LGBTQ community center in Westchester serving youth ages 13-21. They have helped thousands of teens and young adults with support services, educational and recreational activities and their leadership council.

Center Lane also hosts many events, including the upcoming Gay Pride Bash, the Pride Day at Playland and, of course, the annual Gay Prom.

“This is just a great event. It’s very open. We have lots of straight kids and lots of LGBT kids," said Center Lane Youth Counselor Lisa deMauro. “The point of it is that it’s just inclusive and fun."

And with good friends, good food and lots of dancing, newcomers and old timers alike were indeed having fun.

“I’m the only out person in my whole school," said Morgan Sullivan of who was attending her first gay prom. “But once I found Center Lane, it just really helped me out and I’m really excited to be with a lot of people who are like me.”
