Patch, Iona Students Gather to Watch Debate

Viewing party on North Avenue campus.

Iona College students and Patch editors are gathered tonight at the North Avenue campus in New Rochelle for a viewing party to watch the first presidential debate between President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

The first issue up for discussion: Jobs.

Next up, the economy and health care.

The debate has Iona students glued to their seats — but it's difficult to tell who they think is winning the debate. Patch will be talking with a panel of Iona Students about the debate when Obama and Romney finish tonight.

Check out Patch's Live Blog on the debate: Click here

As the debate continues - and after the debate - share your reaction to the debate in the comments area below.

Iona Students are listening intently as Obama and Romney debate jobs creation and the economy.

Iona students were LOL as Romney said he likes Jim Lehrer of PBS - moderator of tonight's debate - and Big Bird, but that he would cut government funding for PBS.

So far, can't tell who the students think is winning the debate. We'll be checking in with a panel of Iona Students right after the debate.

Wow. The ears of the Iona students really perked up when Obama turned the focus of the debate toward the cost of higher education and access to affordable student loans.

The debate is coming to a close.... Who do you think won?

Without a doubt, Mitt won! Hands down.

Mitt Romney made it look as if President Obama forgot to show up to the debate...When ideas and experiences are matched up in a debate-like forum as we saw the other night, the better candidate tends to shine. That was Governor Romney through and through. He was not only able to dispel the lies coming from President Obama, but eloquently and attractively expressed his ideas for getting the nation back on track - Romney/Ryan 2012!

I am sorry to say the only thing Romney did was lie,he lied about his tax plan,he lied about healthcare,he lied about almost everything, and before he would receive my vote he better be honest about his entire career.I want a president who pays his taxes,i want a president who does not hide his money in off shore accounts to avoid paying taxes.MORE LATER

obama's poll numbers are dropping like a stone, I guess that happens when the emperor is exposed for not wearing any clothes. Where are all those posters that continually said that the election was over and obama was going to win in a landslide before the debate?
Aintthatascam October 10, 2012 at 12:30 pm
There are still A LOT of people who will vote for him not because he is half black, but because he is not white.

You are mistaken you mixed up Romney with OBUMMA.
Walt October 10, 2012 at 04:15 pm
Never said that but I don't put much stock in them. Regardless, many on here were on top of the world before the debate as the polls showed obama with a commanding lead. But now? Not so much.

It seemed to me the key point of moving the City Yard from the waterfront was to open up theRead More waterfront and turn that run down and obsolete yard into a public park overlooking Long Island Sound. The westside site was the most cost effective place to move the yard. Not ideal, but no real alternative has been proposed. I don't think this has much to do with racism. All races can enjoy more of the waterfront. Any development around it will add to our tax base

Ms. Aronow, The issue is that an alternative has been suggested, Ward Acres, as it is much largerRead More and strategically beneficial for the City of New Rochelle. I don't think the recent public discussions has resulted in unanimity in terms of the waterfront being an entirely public venue for all races to enjoy.
