North Ave. Work Means Transit Center Detour

Motorists should be aware the detours will be necessary for about a month.

Beginning Monday, motor vehicle traffic will be prohibited from entering the New Rochelle Transit Center Garage and Train Station from North Avenue.

Officials anticipate the detours will be in effect for one month. Detour signs will be posted along the detour routes.

The following detour routes will be in effect:

  • If traveling from the south, use Memorial Highway and then take Division Street to Station Plaza North.
  • If traveling from the north, use Lockwood Avenue or Lincoln Avenue to Memorial Highway, then take Division Street to Station Plaza North.

Drawings showing the detour routes are available of the City Web site and are attached to this article.

In February, the New York State Thruway Authority began construction to relocate utility lines on the North Avenue Bridge that spans the New England Thruway (I-95).

The project—expected to be completed by May 2013—will move electric, cable, telephone, water, fiber optic and natural gas lines from the existing bridge to a parallel bridge built in 2010.
