New Rochelle to Begin Leaf Collection

The preferred method for collection is for the leaves to be bagged.

The leaves are starting to fall, so it is again time for leaf collection.

The City of New Rochelle will begin collecting leaves Oct. 15 and will continue through December. There will be no more yard waste collection until spring, and as of Oct. 15 alternate side street sweeping will be suspended, though parking rules remain in effect.

Bagging the leaves is the preferred method for collection purposes, the city said. The leaves should be placed in biodegradable 30 to 40 gallon paper bags or open containers weighing no more than 75 pounds. If left in plastic, the leaves will not be collected.

Citywide pickup of bagged leaves will occur on six Saturdays: Nov. 3, Nov. 10, Nov. 17, Dec. 1, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15

If not bagged, leaves must be raked to the curb and stacked in long windrows. Leaves must not block storm water catch basins, fire hydrants or traffic lanes. Residents are responsible for making their lawn maintenance workers follow the rules.

The collection schedule will be updated each week on the City's Web site. Additional information can be found on Cablevision Channel 75 or Verizon FIOS Channel 28.

There is a leaf removal hotline: 914-654-6510. For other inquiries or problems, call 914-235-4029, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
