This summer there will be more to do at Hudson Park than just go to the beach.
The City of New Rochelle is set to enter into an agreement with Tilted Kilt LLC to operate the concession stand at the park.
Parks and Recreation Commissioner William Zimmermann said the city received three proposals and chose Tilted Kilt to run the facility.
It was his recommendation for the city to approve an agreement with the company "to operate a quality food and beverage service for the public visiting Hudson Park," Zimmermann said.
The agreement will also allow the concessionaire to serve alcoholic beverages in the park, he said.
Tilted Kilt LLC is located in New Rochelle. The company owns and operates the across from Faneuil Park and Armory.
In the first year of the 10-year agreement, the company will invest about $236,000 in infrastructure and building improvements, between the time of the agreement and July 4, including remodeling the kitchen and an outdoor dining deck, both of which will then become property of the city, Zimmermann said.
He said there are plans for years two through five for other infrastructure improvements possibly including a dock-and-dine arrangement for recreational boaters and a restaurant.
Mayor Noam Bramson said this was a significant investment by a private firm in an important public facility.
"And (it's) a significant reimagining of the Hudson Park Beach which is consistent with the council's directions to revitalize and bring additional interest and traffic to Hudson Park," he said.
Councilman Albert Tarantino, R-District 2, said it was an exciting day for Hudson Park.
"For so many years, we were trying to create something down there that was more than just a beach," he said. "I think that with this agreement it gives us a jump off to start to revitalize Hudson Park in a different manner."
