A 2012 Toyota Highlander was stolen in the area of Aberfoyle Road in New Rochelle after the owner left the keys in a beach bag inside the car sometime Saturday night into Sunday.
New Rochelle police said the car theft took place at about the same time as a group of car larcenies that reportedly took place in the areas of Aberfoyle and Avon roads and Rosedale Avenue.
Items taken during the car larcenies included cash, a TomTom GPS device and a folding knife. All of those vehicles were unlocked, according to police.
It is unclear if the Highlander was locked during the time it was stolen, but police said there were no signs of forced entry at the scene.
New Rochelle Police Capt. Joseph Schaller reminds residents to make sure they’ve locked their cars and taken their keys before they leave their vehicles.
