Police: Westchester Man Stopped for DWI Found with 44 Ounces of Heroin

He's arrested by state troopers on Taconic State Parkway.

A Westchester County man stopped for a traffic violation on the the Taconic State Parkway was found with 44 ounces of heroin, according to State Police.

Gary Matos, 43, of White Plains, was also found to be intoxicated and was driving while he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system, state troopers based in Poughkeepsie said.

Matos was stopped by troopers on Friday at 4:15 p.m. in the Dutchess County town of LaGrange for speeding, unsafe lane changes and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on a highway. As police were citing him for the vehicle and traffic violations they found that Matos was intoxicated.

During the investigation troopers discovered the heroin.

Matos was arrested and arraigned in LaGrange Town Court. He was ordered held in the Dutchess County Jail pending a hearing Tuesday in LaGrance Town Court on charges that include first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Wow Gary. We had no idea he was into all this. We were just hanging out last week and now this.

The point is the guy had HEROIN with him, not that he got caught on a DWI. Pleanty of people get caught on DWI and don't have large amounts of illegal drugs with them ready to poison the comunity.

Lisa September 18, 2012 at 06:23 PM
Ya, thank God he did NOT kill himself or ANY innocent people. Don't be harsh on people you do NOT even know. I am NOT by any means condoning what Gary did but, no one knows what is going on in his life.

Yeah because you can't fault someone with that much heroin, they are genuinely good people who just happened to have allot of narcotics in there possession.

Thank God for his divine intervention...Thank God this poison didn't get to hit the streets, and possibly take the life of some child/teen..Don't know what's going on in his life but you can bet he brought a lot of grief to others..this ain't his first rodeo and it ain't hard to tell he's well aware of the demand..44 ounces of heroin..he should be charged with conspiracy to commit Murder..

Gary sure had a lot of junk in his trunk. I'm sure that peach-fuzz goatee he's sporting is gonna make him real popular in prison. Hey Gary - don't sell the smack if you ain't got the knack.

In Singapore, Mr. Matos would be executed for this crime. In America, he will serve 20 years in prison
