Police Blotter: Bomb Squad Called in for Suspicious Package

A mysterious cardboard box appeared in front of 755 Main St.; the scare turned out to be everyday laundry detergent.

SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE: On Oct. 9, a suspicious cardboard box was left outside 755 Main St. The intersection was blocked off while the Westchester County Bomb Squad removed the box. The bomb scare was turned out to be a false alarm. The box contained laundry detergent. According to Lieutenant Christopher Hearle of the New Rochelle Police Department, there is a man in custody. No other information about the suspect or motive was made known at this time. 

SEX OFFENSE: On Oct. 10, a man grabbed a New Rochelle woman by her buttocks on 750 North Ave. and ran off.

ASSAULT: On Oct. 11, 26-year-old Bernard Washington was pulled over at a traffic stop. Police say the New Rochelle man fled the scene for a short distance and then allegedly attacked the pursuing officer. The officer suffered minor cuts and bruises to his elbow. Washington was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, a felony; third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor; resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana, a violation.
