Police: 3-Year-Old Found Alone on Nanuet Street

The boy, dressed in pajamas, was returned to his nearby home safely; Child Protective Services was contacted.

A 3-year-old boy in Nanuet in Rockland County was on his own this morning on the street, though the youngster didn't make it far from home.

Clarkstown Police received a phone call Friday at about 9:30 a.m. reporting a boy dressed in pajamas standing alone on Lawrence Street in Nanuet, near the Pasack tunnel.

Before the police arrived, the 911-caller recognized the boy and took him home. The youngster's house was about 100 feet away.

Police learned the boy's mother was in the shower when he walked outside. After leaving the shower and learning the boy was no longer home, the mother assumed he had traveled next door to his grandmother's house, police said.

The mother then left for work, according to authorities.

The grandmother told police she had not seen the boy Friday. She generally cares for the child when his mother is at work, and is licensed to operate a daycare from her home, police said.

"The boy was uninjured and in good health," Clarkstown Police Sergeant Jo Anne Fratianni told Patch.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, and have contacted Child Protective Services, Fratianni said.
