New York State Police to Introduce K-9 Troopers via Facebook

State police dogs are named after fallen members of the agency.

The agency's K-9 troopers will be introduced to the public this summer through the New York State Police Facebook page, authorities announced Thursday.

In what the department is calling its "Dog Days of Summer" initiative, two police canines will be featured on the page each day.

State police dogs are named after the agency's fallen troopers, and in addition to information about the dog and its handler, each post will also include a profile of the fallen trooper.

"This campaign is a way to introduce the public to the canines that serve their community, but also is a way to honor the men and women who have been killed in the line of duty," the agency said in a statement.
